The Modern menu: choose a tasting experience

Begin with the menu format. Impressions and Abstractions offer different lengths of experience; ingredient changes matter more than treating every saved dish as an individual order.

Three decisions behind a tasting menu

Compare the experience and ingredient directions, without tasting claims or rankings.

Choose the format before individual dishes

A shorter or more extensive experience

The official dinner page describes Impressions as a shorter journey and Abstractions as more extensive. Both are changing tasting menus, not lists of independent à-la-carte items. Shared names across the saved sections do not mean two portions or a combined menu.

A seafood headline can include meat

Read the seafood accompaniment

The captured scallop combination names ’nduja, a pork sausage, alongside eggplant. The current dinner sample instead names lobster with ’nduja, eggplant and peanuts. These are dated, different combinations: ask about the current course and complete ingredients rather than assume seafood-only.

Historical examples help frame questions

Compare the changing later courses

The capture has chicken in Impressions and lamb in Abstractions. Current dinner examples have changed, including duck or Arctic char in Impressions and chicken with boudin blanc in Abstractions. Use the saved names to understand differences, then confirm the actual menu; do not request a historical dish as a promised option.

Read the whole experience before choosing

A tasting menu is a sequence. These questions help compare the two formats.

  1. 01

Confirm which menu you are choosing

This guide covers the captured dinner tasting menus. The Bar Room has a separate à-la-carte menu, and the Kitchen Table is another experience. Confirm the format with the restaurant rather than carry choices between those menus.

  2. 02

Check ingredients beyond the main protein

The capture includes squash with chèvre and a brown-butter roll with cultured butter. Those names disclose dairy. A seafood course with ’nduja also includes pork; ask about sauces and substitutions across the sequence, not only one plate.

  3. 03

Leave the final courses open to change

Peaches and Cream appears in the capture; the current dinner sample has different endings. Eggs on Eggs on Eggs is a name, not proof of three cooking methods. Confirm what those courses actually contain before assuming a recipe from their titles.

Before choosing The Modern

Can I order these 18 entries individually?

They are saved entries across two dinner tasting menus, with repeated dishes. This guide does not establish individual ordering or the current course count.

Is the captured menu the current dinner menu?

No. The official site says its nightly menu changes frequently, and the reviewed sample differs from the September capture. Confirm current ingredients and choices with staff.

Does a seafood course mean no pork?

No. The captured scallop and current lobster examples name ’nduja. Review the complete ingredient line and discuss dietary needs with the restaurant.

Independent SeEat guide, not affiliated with The Modern. Official menu and dinner page reviewed October 1, 2026; capture September 10. Current examples differ, repeated entries are not extra courses, and no tasting, ranking or dietary-safety claim is made. Images are omitted because ingredient names do not verify plating.
