SeEat Turns Unfamiliar Restaurant Menus Into Visual, Personalized Dining Guides
The AI-powered iPhone app helps travelers, international students, and curious diners understand dishes, compare options, and order with greater confidence.
Causally Inc. today introduced SeEat, an AI-powered visual menu companion designed to make unfamiliar restaurant menus easier to understand. By photographing or uploading a menu, users can turn pages of unfamiliar dish names and descriptions into a clearer guide featuring translations, representative dish visuals, ingredients, preparation details, prices, and personalized recommendations.
Restaurant menus often assume local knowledge. Even when every word can be translated, diners may still not know what a regional dish looks like, how it is prepared, what it contains, or whether it suits their tastes and dietary needs. SeEat is built to close that gap between reading a menu and feeling ready to order.
“A literal translation can tell you what the words mean, but it rarely tells you what the meal will be like,” said Hongkai He, CEO. “We created SeEat to give people the context they need to explore unfamiliar food with more confidence—and to discover dishes they might otherwise overlook.”
With SeEat, users can capture or upload multiple menu pages and receive plain-language explanations across languages. The app organizes information that is often scattered or missing, including dish names, prices, ingredients, preparation methods, flavor characteristics, and estimated nutrition. It can also rank options according to a user’s taste, dietary preferences, budget, and appetite for trying something new.
SeEat’s visual approach is central to the experience. The app generates representative AI images to help users form a clearer impression of dishes that appear only as text on a menu. These visuals are presented as references rather than exact depictions: a restaurant’s actual ingredients, portion size, and presentation may differ.
The app is designed for real-world dining situations, from a traveler encountering a regional specialty to an international student navigating everyday meals in a new country. A menu can also be shared by link or QR code, allowing everyone at the table to browse and compare dishes on their own device.
Food safety and transparency remain important parts of the product experience. SeEat can help surface possible allergens and dietary considerations, while distinguishing menu-derived information from AI-generated estimates. Users with allergies or strict dietary requirements should always confirm ingredients and preparation directly with the restaurant.
To introduce the product, SeEat is inviting diners to take the No-Picture Menu Challenge: choose from an unfamiliar text-only menu, scan it with SeEat, and compare the initial choice with the dishes they understand—and ultimately select—after seeing the app’s visual and contextual guidance. The challenge is designed to show how better information can change not only what people know about a menu, but what they feel confident enough to try.
Built by Causally Inc., SeEat reflects the company’s focus on practical, AI-native products for frequent real-life decisions. The team is developing the app with a global-first approach, testing it in real dining and travel contexts and continually improving menu recognition, recommendations, and the overall user experience.
SeEat is available now for iPhone. To learn more, download the app, or participate in the No-Picture Menu Challenge, visit the App Store.
