Mixtli menu: read the tasting courses before you commit

Al Pastor here lists lobster, not a pork taco. The bread course names Asiento alongside sourdough pita. Read the ingredients across the whole tasting menu before discussing your preferences with the restaurant.

Three parts of the progression

Use these comparisons to understand the meal, not to rank favorites or build an à la carte order.

Scallop with coconut versus lobster with pineapple

Two seafood courses

Aguachile lists scallop, turmeric, coconut, sumac and mint. Al Pastor instead lists lobster, pickled pineapple and heirloom corn. Both contribute seafood to the progression; the Al Pastor name does not establish a pork filling here.

Read beyond pita and beef

Bread and short rib accompaniments

Bread Course lists sourdough pita, Toum, Asiento and parsley root. Shish Barak lists short rib, Baharat, Jocoque and Salsa Macha. These named accompaniments matter when discussing pork, dairy or sauce ingredients; ask for the exact preparation rather than guessing a complete recipe.

Hibiscus and rose water versus milk and orange blossom

Frozen intermezzo and cake

Intermezzo is listed as hibiscus and rose-water granita. Dessert lists tres leches, orange blossom and flowers. They play different roles in the progression. The final Mignardise has no disclosed components in the official list.

Questions to settle before the tasting

Check the full progression rather than just its main protein.

  1. 01

    Assess the full menu

Scallop, lobster, snapper, short rib and lamb appear across different courses. Choosing a fish-focused course does not turn this entire tasting into a pescatarian menu.

  2. 02

    Ask about the bread course

Asiento traditionally comes from pork-fat cooking residues. It is listed with the pita here; ask the restaurant to confirm its preparation and any adjustment. Bread alone is not evidence of an animal-free course.

  3. 03

Separate the tasting from the bar

The official bar page explicitly says it does not serve the tasting menu. Its rotating snacks are a different offering. Confirm the current tasting theme and discuss adjustments in advance.

Questions about the tasting menu

Can I order these courses individually?

This guide explains the tasting progression. It does not establish an à la carte ordering option or a tasting service at the bar. Confirm the booking format with the restaurant.

Will this menu stay the same?

Mixtli describes changing themes. These examples belong to the reviewed Del Levante a Mexico list and September capture; future menus may differ.

Can the restaurant adjust the menu?

The official policy asks for advance dietary communication and states limits. Do not assume every request can be accommodated on arrival. Confirm your particular needs directly before booking.
