Three comparisons before ordering

Sauces, accompaniments and the main ingredient work together.

Garlic butter or au poivre

Start with the steak’s sauce

Butcher’s Steak names garlic butter; NY Strip names au poivre sauce. Other beef choices include ribeye, porterhouse and Ax Handle Ribeye, but their listing does not establish the same sauce. Choose the combination you want and ask about cut, preparation and what is included rather than infer them from another restaurant’s menu.

Herb soubise or Calabrian chili

Two tartares, different ingredients

Mushroom Tartare names sunchoke chips and herb soubise; Beef Tartare names Calabrian chili. One is a mushroom starter, the other is raw beef. Compare the ingredient and accompaniment before choosing; mushroom does not by itself establish a dairy-free or vegan sauce.

Peppers and tomatoes, or lemon and butter

Compare the fish plate as a whole

Whole Branzino lists roasted peppers and tomatoes. Salmon Collar lists lemon and garlic butter. Blackened Sea Scallops are another combination, with sweet corn, heritage bacon and hakurei turnips. Choose the listed accompaniments rather than assume every seafood dish is free of meat or dairy.

Choose the starters, sides and sweets

Read cheese, nuts, cooking fats and dessert additions as part of the dish.

  1. 01

    Read starters beyond the headline

Biscuits come with pimento cheese. Burrata lists grapes, pistachio granola and grilled sourdough. Baby Iceberg names bacon, blue cheese and chopped egg; Radicchio & Little Gem lists artichokes and heirloom beans. Those additions distinguish the salad or cheese plate more clearly than its main ingredient alone.

  2. 02

Compare vegetable mains with the side ingredients

Crispy Eggplant lists lemon caper sauce and pistachio pesto. Grilled Carrots name onion cream and walnut-carrot crumb; Grilled Okra names spicy mayo. Pan-Fried Mashed Potatoes explicitly list bacon fat, while Wild Mushrooms list Madeira butter and Steak Fries list ranch. Check the sauces and cooking fat when they affect your order.

  3. 03

    Choose dessert by its additions

Peach Crumble pairs almond crumble with vanilla ice cream. Buttermilk Pie names citrus whipped cream; Peanut Butter Pie names crème fraîche and peanut brittle. Ice Cream Cake combines vanilla and brownie ice creams with chocolate crunchies. Pick those combinations without assuming a full allergy-safe recipe or a fixed seasonal offering.

Before choosing from St. Anselm

Which St. Anselm steak should I compare first?

Compare Butcher’s Steak with garlic butter against NY Strip with au poivre. The official section also lists other beef cuts; ask about preparation and sides rather than treat every listing as the same combination.

Are mushroom tartare and beef tartare interchangeable?

No. The former names mushrooms, sunchoke chips and herb soubise; the latter is raw beef with Calabrian chili. Neither dish name establishes the full sauce recipe or dietary suitability.

Are the potato and vegetable sides meat-free?

Not all: the potatoes list bacon fat, and scallops list heritage bacon. Mushroom butter, ranch, onion cream and pesto also deserve ingredient questions. Confirm full preparation with staff rather than rely on plant names.

Does this guide cover every St. Anselm menu?

No. It follows the exact saved Dinner menu and the matching restaurant’s Dinner/Dessert source. Lunch, brunch, seasonal items and menus at other restaurants can differ.
